Now that we’re waking up to frost on the ground and snow flurries, I suppose it’s time for me to make some kind of post about fall.

We’ve been so, so busy settling into the routine of our jobs and trying to work friend/family time in there, I haven’t had time to update here as much as I’d like. Yes, it’s cliche for a blogger to come crawling back to their site claiming to have been “so super busy, guys,” but here we are.

So what’s been going on over in Big Rapids lately?

Bryan started his job at Yoplait a couple weeks ago and I’m pretty sure he likes it. He’s working second shift (about 3-11 p.m.) and he’s a team leader. He basically watches different production lines and makes sure nothing goes wrong, but from the sounds of it, things go wrong quite a bit more than you might expect. If you get a chance, ask him about the Gogurt line and how complicated it is to get that yogurt into those little tubes. He’s so full of Yoplait trivia now, it’s kind of like talking to an episode of Food Network’s “Unwrapped.” And Yogurt Wednesday is pretty much awesome. With all this calcium, we’re gonna have the strongest bones ever!

My job is going well. Even though covering things like sex abuse and murder gets to be a little depressing, it’s nothing that can’t be fixed with a bottle of wine at the end of the day (kidding! maybe…). But the cool part about my job is that it gets me out into the community to meet people. And Big Rapids people are awesome! There are so many nice people in this tiny little town.  Whodah known?

Other than that, we’re just chillin’ and getting ready for the onslaught of holiday marrymaking. Joy to the world!

The past few weeks are probably better summed up in photos, so here’s a slideshow. Thanks for reading!

Today, we finally got the good news we’ve been waiting for. Bryan was offered a job at the Yoplait facility in Reed City! Please send your congratulations his way. Thanks for any good vibes or prayers you’re sent our way. It’s all very much appreciated!

In case you’re wondering, the answer is yes. Yes, there are yogurt incentives. I believe there is something called “Yogurt Wednesday” that involves us bringing home a whole case of yogurt straight off the line or something like that. Yoplait already is our choice yogurt brand so this works out beautifully.

At this time, we’d like to extend a huge thank you to Big Rapids for being awesome. Never did we ever think moving to such a small city would pay off so huge for both of us. Thanks, Big Rapids!

It’s been a while since I’ve updated here because, WOW, it has been a crazy month. But the only news I have to report (news relevant to this blog, of course) happens to be good news.

We’ve moved to Big Rapids, we’ve been here about a month and we’re pretty happy here. It’s a bit of a hike home and we’re not big fans of the two-hour drive across M-46 but small-town life ain’t that bad. OK, there’s no Target and a lot of stuff closes at 6 p.m. but the biggest crimes here involve bike theft and shouting matches. It’s a nice change of pace for me and a little bit like Houghton for Bryan.

I’m working at the Pioneer and Bryan has a part-time job at the Quality Inn. More importantly, Bryan has a second interview soon with General Mills/Yoplait, which has a plant about 20 minutes north of here in Reed City. Any job prayers you can send our way would be greatly appreciated!

That’s the biggest news we have to share right now. I’m working on updating this blog to make it less wedding-centric and more of an ongoing life blog we’ll use to keep everyone updated on the big things. So feel free to leave us comments or send us e-mails because we definitely want to keep in touch!

Oh, and watch out for those thank you notes. They’ll be coming before too long.

For those of you who have been DYING to see the professional shots taken by our photographer Sean Cook and his lovely assistant Kat Petersen, here’s a sneak preview. There are only seven pictures but if the rest are this gorgeous — and Sean has assured me the best is yet to come — I can’t wait to see what’s in store.

This weekend is Fourth of July, quite obviously, but Bryan and I are doing a little more than celebrating our great nation’s independence. We’re moving to Big Rapids this weekend, where Tuesday I’ll start working as the cops and courts and city government and etc. reporter at the Big Rapids Pioneer. We spent today packing most of the things from my rental in Bay City into a U-Haul van and stuffing the rest into the tiny trunk of the Camry. We’re exhausted. In fact, Bryan is asleep next to me on the mattress which is currently on the living room floor surrounded by suitcases and dust bunnies. Tonight we’re going to wander downtown to watch Bay City’s big firework display and drink a few beers with some friends. Life ain’t that bad, people.

After things slow down a little bit, I’ll upload some photos from our honeymoon and of our new place in Big Rapids and share them with everyone here. Which brings me to my next update….

Many a family member and friend has asked me, “Are you going to keep updating the website now that the wedding is over?” The short answer is, yes, I plan to keep updating bryanandwhitney.com. The long answer involves me explaining what kind of updates you can expect, what changes I’m going to make to the site and a lot of other stuff I’ll reveal later once I get it figured out. Since we’re going to be far away from home and don’t have any real expectations of returning to the Saginaw Valley, we know everyone wants to keep in touch and would probably appreciate something a little more candid than Facebook stalking. So stay tuned — the best is yet to come. 🙂

Oh! And don’t forget to add your shots from the wedding to our Flickr pool! We’d love you ever-so-much for doing so.

Here's a picture of Bryan and I during a hike we took on our honeymoon in the Smoky Mountain National Park. More to come!

This has been a pretty exciting week for us and i have yet to share the news with our wedding blog readers!

On Monday, I accepted a job at The Pioneer in Big Rapids, a small paper in the same city as Ferris State University. I’m going to be a cops and courts reporter who also does a little city government reporting and edits the company’s quarterly women’s magazine, Fusion. I’ll be starting on July 6, which means we’ll be moving to Big Rapids after the wedding.

How exciting!

Also on Monday, Bryan interviewed with a copper mining company in Ely, Nevada. They flew him out on Sunday to Salt Lake City and he got to take a beautiful drive through the desert and the mountains in a pretty speedy rental car. 🙂 So far, he hasn’t heard back about the position but we’ll see what happens.

Maybe this will throw a wrench into our plans of no longer being a long distance couple. You never know what could happen when opportunity knocks!

So anyways, there’s a little life update for all your curious readers. If anyone knows any landlords in Big Rapids, e-mail me because I’m looking for a place to call home for a couple years. I’m an excellent tenant!

22 days left! Get pumped!

Bryan is home for spring break. Everyone say YAY!

Even though I’m still obligated to work (the real world is funny that way), we have a busy week while he’s home. There’s plenty of marriage prep classes to do and no shortage of friends to visit. We also built a couple wedding registries, one at Target and one at Macy’s. But this blog is all about honestly — what blog isn’t? — and we want everyone to know about 97 percent of the things we need are at Target because Macy’s is just too damn expensive.

Truth.

So if you happen to go to Macy’s and notice there’s about seven things on the list, it’s because we started scanning things and then quickly realized bedding, for example, was upwards of $400 and the china was just too fancy. We’re simple kids with simple families. We don’t need all that fancy stuff!

If you get us something, thanks in advance. You’re helping us become much more pampered people and better cooks, since most of the stuff is for the kitchen. You can find links to our registries on the FAQ page.

If there’s some information you’d like to see on this site or if you’ve got a question, post a comment. I’ll definitely answer your question and, if need be, create a new page to cover anything others might be curious about. In the meantime, have a splendid day!

Hello!

We are Bryan and Whitney. We're two kids who recently graduated from college, got married and moved away from our hometown of Saginaw, Mich. This was our wedding blog. Now it's our life blog, where you can find life updates and keep in touch with us even though we're far away from wherever you might be. Leave comments, send us e-mails and keep in touch. We'd love to hear from you.
